Stair Nosing

Most building codes require some type of stair nosing be installed on commercial, industrial or municipal stairs to provide anti slip properties. The primary benefit of this nosing is to add safety for pedestrians. Amstep offers an array of products engineered to increase traction on stairways and also add aesthetic appeal.

Amstep Products offers glow-in-the-dark stair treads for their Series 200-700 nosings and treads. Glowline™ is unlike most photoluminescent add-ons offered by our competitors. It's not a cheap substitute, flimsy tape, or low-grade phosphorous liquid. We use the same durable, non-slip, super-tough abrasive material found in all of our stair parts so you're guaranteed a bright glow that resists the elements!

Looking to increase the visibility of your stairways and easily improve the safety of visually impaired pedestrian traffic? Search no further than Amstep's Sightline option! Equip any of our 200-700 series products with contrasting, standard colors to add traction and appeal to your steps.

Stair Nosing Benefits

Additional benefits are gained if the stair nosing is of a contrasting color to the rest of the stair tread. This is to give a visual warning to pedestrians of the change in height from step to step or from landing to step. Some zoning laws require it only on the top and bottom step of a flight while others require every step to have a contrasting front.

Another benefit of this product is durability. A step with stair nosing installed will wear more slowly than a naked step. Since the nose of a stair gets more impact and contact than any other part of the step it would wear more quickly than the rest of the step. The step's nosing is designed to stand up to more impact than the bare stair tread without cracking, wearing or breaking. Nothing will last forever, but your stairs will last longer with quality nose protection than they will with out them.

Anti-slip nosing can be added when building new steps or when renovating existing steps. Amstep Products has models that cover both options with an aircraft grade aluminum base combined with epoxy bonded non slip materials.

The best place to review your options for new construction is in our 200 Series category on our website. There are different sizes with and without integral anchors. They can be used in new concrete, wood, tile and metal stairs.

For renovating existing staircases, you can choose renovation style models from Amstep. Renovation-style products can be found in the 300 Series category on our website and come in 3”, 4” and 5” depths and has a no trip bevel at the back. To cover the entire tread including any existing nosing, there are great options in our 500 series and 700 series categories.
